Tropical Depression Three path: Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands advised to monitor hurricane forecast

Tropical Depression Three has formed in the central tropical Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center has advised the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to closely monitor weather forecast updates. These places were also advised to keep their hurricane plans in place.

Currently, the depression is forecast to strengthen and move across the Lesser Antilles as a hurricane on Thursday and Friday. It will bring along with it heavy rainfall and a resultant risk of flooding. It is also slated to bring hurricane-force winds and dangerous storm surges and waves.

The NHC has also mentioned that it was too early to predict the exact path of the impending hurricane and to specify the exact location and magnitude where the hazards will take place. However, the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands have been advised to take necessary hurricane precautions.

According to WPLG Local 10 broadcast meteorologist Brandon Orr, “the first forecast cone calls for a possible hurricane in the eastern Caribbean by Friday. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands need to monitor the progress of soon-to-be Bret, but it’s not a concern to the U.S. or Bahamas.”

NHC has added that there are no current threats to South Florida. “However, use this time to prepare for this hurricane season,” the center quipped in one of its tweets. Tropical Depression 3 is expected to peak as a 80 mph Hurricane.
