United Airlines aircraft goes through engine malfunction, drops debris on residential area
- The flight was travelling from Denver to Honululu
- The debris fell majorly in the Denver suburb of Broomfield
- The airline reported through a tweet that no onboard injuries were recorded in the flight
A United Airlines flight on Saturday
suffered an engine failure after taking off from Denver, Colorado on its way to
Hawaii, dropping massive amounts of debris on a residential area before having
a safe landing. Despite the failed engines, the safe landing prompted images
being posted on Twitter. A video shot inside the aircraft, on the other hand, showed
the right engine on fire and its cover missing, as it flew over an empty
landscape, AFP reported.
“Flight UA328 from Denver to
Honolulu experienced an engine failure shortly after departure, returned safely
to Denver and was met by emergency crews as a precaution,” a tweet by
United Airlines confirmed, further adding that there are no reported injuries on
board the flight.

“I can honestly say I thought we
were going to die at one point — because we started dropping altitude right
after the explosion. I grabbed my wife’s hand and said, ‘We’re done’”, AFP quoted
David Delucia, one of the passengers on the flight, as saying.
The Boeing 777-200 dropped major
chunks of debris over the Denver suburb of Broomfield.
The parts included a round, giant
piece of metal that fell in a yard.
“It landed square on top of my truck
and fell off”, said Kirby Clements, a resident of the area.

He further described how another piece
of debris fell on one of his neighbour’s roof and created a 1.5-metre deep hole.
