Former President Donald Trump has been charged with four counts in the case concerning his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 US presidential elections. The charges are

  • Conspiracy to defraud the United States
  • Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding
  • Obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding
  • Conspiracy against rights

Donald Trump was indicted on Tuesday for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, the third time in four months that he has been criminally charged. The former president is also campaigning for the 2024 elections.

The Republican is accused of plotting to defraud the United States by obstructing Congress’s certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s victory and denying voters their right to a free and fair election in the four-count, according to the 45-page indictment.

Trump was indicted in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation and will be placed in the custody of the US Marshals Service and he will be processed as part of the proceedings.

He provided information to court officials when he was taken into custody last month in Miami’s federal courthouse for his initial court appearance in the prosecution of the misuse of secret documents. He did not have to take a mugshot, but he did submit to having his fingerprints taken.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump posted in all caps on his social media platform Truth Social, “I am now going to Washington, D.C. to be arrested for having challenged a corrupt, rigged & stolen election.”He arrived at Reagan National Airport on his personal aircraft bearing his last name shortly before 3 p.m.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement on social media Wednesday that his agency was “working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Federal Protective Service to ensure the highest levels of safety and security for the former president while minimizing disruptions to the normal court process.”
