President Joe Biden was seen in a video promoting “Dark Brandon” coffee mugs on Thursday, just hours before his predecessor was scheduled to be arraigned in Washington DC after getting indicted for the third time.

The mugs, being sold by Biden’s campaign, attempts to poke fun at the popular mem, which was originally designed to mock the president. The meme is now being used as as a campaign strategy for POTUS’ reelection in 2024.

“I like my coffee dark,” the president says after taking a sip from the coffee mug in the video which featured the merchandise.

The video instantly went viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, especially after being posted just hours before former President Donald Trump is scheduled to be arraigned on criminal charges stemming from his efforts to overturn his loss in the 2020 presidential election. He will be appearing in-person in front of a federal magistrate judge at 4 p.m. ET at the E. Barrett Prettyman courthouse.

The origin of the phrase ‘Dark Brandon’ has been heavily debated among liberals and conservatives alike. Some far-right conservatives believe that “snarky leftists” created the term to repurpose “Dark MAGA” memes which went viral during the Trump presidency.

The term ‘Brandon’ first surfaced as part of a right-wing slogan “Let’s Go Brandon.” It was originally coined as a code for “F— Joe Biden.”

Biden’s supporters and later campaign members, have, however, transformed the chant as a positive meme for Biden and have since used it to clap back at his haters.

The mug in question is an illustration of Biden with laser-eyes. It also has the word “2024” for the president re-election campaign. These mugs are available for purchase on the Biden-Harris campaign website for $22. There are also accompanying merch, including matching hats, canvas bags, stickers, and t-shirts.
