A Brooklyn man, Abraham Kentish, has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses following an alleged stabbing spree in November. The incident took place at an East New York homeless shelter where Kentish was staying. According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Kentish attacked three people, two of whom were sleeping at the time. The attacks resulted in three men being injured, and all victims were treated for their wounds at Brookdale Hospital.
The incident began in the early hours of November 12, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., when Kentish allegedly stabbed a 70-year-old man fifteen times while he was sleeping at the shelter. He then reportedly attacked a 38-year-old man, stabbing him twice in the face and once in the elbow. After leaving the shelter, Kentish is accused of proceeding to the New Lots Avenue subway station, where he allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old man who was sleeping on a 4 train. Kentish was arrested on the same day by New York City Police Officers who noticed he matched the description of the suspect.
