John Neely Kennedy is an attorney and politician in the US. He has served as the junior American senator from Louisiana since 2017. He will be contesting the Republican primary elections in Louisiana, which is scheduled on November 8 this year. The Louisiana Senate elections for 2022 will be held on December 10, 2022. Voters will choose one candidate to serve in the United States Senate.

Senator Kennedy is a member of the Senate Appropriations, Banking, Budget, Judiciary, and Small Business Committees. He chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts and the Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy.

Who is John Neely Kennedy? 

Kennedy was born in the Mississippi town of Centreville. He received the prestigious magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in political science, philosophy, and economics.  A remarkable student from an early age, he served as the president of his graduating class and was appointed to Phi Beta Kappa. He attended the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as an executive editor of the “Virginia Law Review” and was chosen to the Order of the Coif. 

He graduated from Oxford University with a Bachelor’s in Civil Law. Kennedy received the prestigious magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in political science, philosophy, and economics. He was president of his graduating class and was appointed to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Oxford University with a Bachelor’s in Civil Law.

From 1988 to 1992, Kennedy was special counsel to Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer and later served as a Secretary in the Governor’s Cabinet  from 1990 to 1992. 

Kennedy also served as Louisiana State Treasurer from 2000 to 2017. Kennedy previously served as a Democrat leader for two of his five terms before switching parties in 2007. In 2007, 2011, and 2015, he was re-elected as a Republican.

He spearheaded the state’s multi-billion dollar investment strategies as treasurer. He was also in charge of county and state bond issues. He returned millions of dollars in the unclaimed property each year.
