As tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remain high, expressions of support for various sides often spill over into divisive rhetoric. Najam’s comparison, aligning Israel’s actions with Nazi practices, has drawn intense criticism, notably for trivializing the Holocaust and violating the IHRA working definition of antisemitism.

The controversial post listed purported similarities between Nazis and what Najam referred to as the “Palestine Lobby,” encompassing themes of forced expulsions, racial segregation, and the use of dehumanizing language. Such comparisons are explicitly identified as antisemitic by the IHRA working definition, aiming to address and counter manifestations of antisemitism comprehensively.

The incident involving Amina Rehman occurs against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East. On October 7, approximately 1,500 Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in an estimated 1,400 casualties and around 240 people being taken hostage in Gaza.
