Thomas Vinterberg won the award for best International feature film for %u2018Another Round%u2019 at the 93rd Academy Awards taking place in Los Angeles on Sunday (Monday in Indian time). The Danish filmmaker dedicated his Oscars award to his late daughter, Ida Vinterberg. 

In his award acceptance speech, Thomas Vinterberg remembered Ida Vinterberg, and said, “This is a miracle that just happened%u2014and you’re a part of this miracle. Maybe you’ve been pulling some strings somewhere, I don’t know. But this one is for you.”

Thomas had started filming %u2018Another Round%u2019 with Ida in lead role, however, Ida died on May 4, 2019 in a car accident while she was travelling to Paris from Belgium with her mother. Ida was 19 years old when she died.

Thomas has dedicated %u2018Another Round%u2019 to Ida and has filmed most of the part of the movie with Ida’s classmates in her school. 

%u201CSomeone was looking at a cellphone. We miss her and we love her,%u201D Thomas Vinterberg said in his award acceptance speech at Oscars.

Thomas told the audience,  %u201CTwo months before we shot this movie and two months before she died, she was in Africa%u2026 She sent me a letter. And she%u2019d just read the script, and she was glowing with excitement. She loved this and felt seen by this. She was supposed to be in this. If anyone dares to believe that she%u2019s with us somehow, you%u2019ll be able to see her, clapping and cheering with us.%u201D
