Tony Kempsey is a 58-year-old man from Gowanus, accused of raping a 49-year-old woman in Maspeth in late April.

Around five in the morning on April 30, the victim climbed onto the back of Kempsey’s scooter after she was already walking outside. When they got to 48th Avenue, close to 72nd Street, he allegedly hit her in the face, forcing her to fall to the ground and go unconscious. The man then allegedly raped her and took off on the scooter.

After the rapist drove off, authorities were unable to locate him on camera. At some time, he removed his helmet, and a camera captured a picture of his face that the authorities were able to use to identify him.

The victim, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig, had just moments ago left a house party three blocks away for some fresh air.

“The rape was caught on video, and it’s pretty brutal,” Essig said. “Knocks her to the ground. Knocks her out. She sustained bleeding on her brain. She went through a very traumatic experience. She remembers walking in the rain, clearing her head. It was a traumatic incident, so she doesn’t recall a lot.”

Essig claimed that Kempsey had ten prior arrests, the most recent being for a 2017 stabbing in which he injured a victim while posing as a police officer. According to records, he served three sentences in state prison, the longest of which was 20 years for a murder that occurred in Queens in 1992 at the Roosevelt Avenue subway station.

The victim is now making a full recovery after being taken to Elmhurst Medical Centre. Moreover, cops released photos of Kempsey Wednesday and asked the public’s help tracking him down.
