After being aware of Thompson’s story, TMZ reported that Kaepernick wanted to help out the family. As a result, he contacted Ben Crump, who is the attorney for the family, and offered to pay for a second autopsy which would be contacted by an independent firm. Auoptsies can cost anywhere between $20,000-50,000.
Who was LaShawn Thompson?
Lashawn Thompson was arrested in June 2022, for misdemeanor simple battery and was then taken to Fulton County Jail. He was placed in the psychiatric unit due to his existing mental health issues.
On September 19, 2022, Thompson was found unresponsive and later declared. Although authorities tried performing life-saving measures on him, he did not respond. Thompson’s family has claimed that the inmate was kept in very unsanitary and deplorable conditions inside the jail cell. According to them, the cell was infested with bugs. There were bed bugs and insects biting him.
