Indo-Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh displayed her solidarity with Indian farmers at the 2021 Grammys by wearing a face mask with “I stand with farmers” written on it. Thousands of farmers, mainly from the states of Punjab and Haryana, have been protesting at several Delhi border points since November 2020, demanding the government to repeal the three farm laws.
Lilly Singh took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of herself sporting the mask.
“I know red carpet/award show pictures always get the most coverage, so here you go media. Feel free to run with it,” she wrote.
This is not the first time the YouTuber is voicing support for the farmers. Last year, she took to TikTok to draw attention to the protest.
“Did you know right in India there is the largest human protest in history taking place? If you follow me on other socials, you know I’ve been talking a lot about the farmer protests happening in India. Long story short, farmers are protesting new agriculture bills that affect their livelihood. And they’ve been peacefully protesting but they’re met with no so peaceful responses,” she said in the TikTok video.
Several other international celebrities like Rihanna and Mia Khalifa, have also voiced their concerns regarding the protests.
