Amazon Quiz (November 19): This temple is situated on the banks of which river?

Ganga

Yamuna

Narmada

Tapi

Answer: Narmada

The temple shown here is the Maheshwar temple. Maheshwar is a town in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, close to the city of Khargone. It is situated on State Highway 38 (the Khargone-Barwaha-Bandheri Highway), 13.5 kilometres east of National Highway 3 (the Agra-Mumbai Highway), and 91 kilometres from Indore, the state’s commercial hub.

The town is located on the Narmada River’s north bank. It belonged to Chaktavartin Samrat Sahastraarjun, a monarch of the Heheya people and a Kartavirya Arjuna. It served as the Malwa region’s capital for a brief while during the Maratha Holkar era, from 6 January 1818 until Malhar Rao Holkar III moved the capital to Indore.

Here are some facts about the Narmada river:

– The Rewa is another name for the Narmada. It is the fifth-longest river and is located in central India. The Narmada Kund, which is situated in Amarkantak in the Anuppur District of Madhya Pradesh, is the river’s source.

– After the Godavari and the Krishna, the Narmada is the third-longest river that flows fully within India. People from Madhya Pradesh completely rely on the Narmada River; they see it as the state’s lifeline.

– Along with the Mahi and Tapti, it is one among the main rivers in India that flow from east to west. It traverses Gujarat (1,077 km), Maharashtra (74 km), and Madhya Pradesh (161 km).

– In the valley between the ranges, floods can result from Narmada tributaries. When compared to the Himalayan Mountain Range’s teak trees, the Indian teak trees planted along this Narmada are older.

– One of India’s five holiest rivers is the Narmada. Godavari, Ganga, Yamuna, and Kaveri rivers make up the other four. Hindus regard the Narmada River as a significant place of pilgrimage. It has a strong connection to Lord Shiva.

– The Narmada River spans three states and has over 20 branches. For close to 20 crore people, it is their lifeline.
