Poland is experiencing a big increase in persons crossing into the nation from Ukraine as they flee a Russian invasion. According to Zaryn, “increased traffic on the border” has taken place in the last 24 hours, with “29,000 people passed through the border crossings from Ukraine,” according to Stanisaw Zaryn, spokesman for the minister of special services coordinator’s office.

Zaryn told Polish radio station Radio Plus that almost half of individuals crossing the border say they are fleeing the fighting.

“These are people who must be considered as war refugees. These people will be accepted in Poland in accordance with all procedures,” he said.

Poland is prepared for a higher influx of refugees, with the Polish government establishing receiving centres near the Ukrainian border to assist in the processing of those arriving.

“We constantly hope that the scale of the Ukrainian resistance and the reaction of the world will be so significant and well-conducted that Russia will be able to stop, but if it fails, Poland has developed mechanisms to receive those people who flee from Ukraine,” Żaryn said.
