Cristiano Ronaldo praised Michael Carrick, saying the former Manchester United assistant coach can become a great coach. Carrick took over as the club’s caretaker manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last month. He coached the team for three matches, winning one and drawing two.

Ronaldo on Instagram praised Michael Carrick. The two have played together before the former left for Real Madrid in 2009.

“Michael Carrick was a class act as a player and he can become a great coach as well. Nothing is impossible for this guy. Personally, I’m proud to have played with him by my side as well as with him as a manager on our bench,” Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on Instagram along with a picture of him alongside Carrick.

Michael Carrick’s term as Manchester United’s caretaker finished with a 3-2 win over Arsenal on Thursday. With the result, the Red Devils moved three points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham United. German coach Ralf Rangnick is set to take over as United’s interim manager. The team will face Crystal Palace at home on Sunday.

Against Arsenal, two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo took him past 800 in his career. Rangnick wasn’t officially in charge of United for the match on Thursday but he was there to watch his new team display the same shortcomings and flashes of brilliance that characterized United under the previous manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
