Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu opened India’s medal tally as she clinched a silver medal in the 49kg category and ended the nation’s 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal. After the victory, in an interview, the weightlifter from Manipur said that she now wants to eat pizza.

And Domino’s, an American multinational pizza chain, obliged.

Interestingly, Domino’s heard the weightlifting champion and decided to reward her for her hard work and efforts in winning laurels for India. The pizza chain tweeted to announce that it would be treating Mirabai Chanu to a “lifetime of free pizzas”.

The Domino’s team in Imphal also made it to Mirabai’s home to congratulate her family.  The chief executive officer of Jubilant Foodworks, Pratik Pota, took to Twitter to announce the same and wrote, “Even as we prepare to give #MirabaiChanu a hero’s welcome and let her eat pizzas to her heart’s content, our Imphal team went to her house to congratulate her family with what else but Domino’s Pizza. Congratulations @mirabai_chanu you have done India proud.”

The gesture by Domino’s garnered appreciation from social media users. One of the users wrote, “@dominos_india surely knows how to be there when people need them!

How I wish they heard me also and said, “Thathastu” when I crave for pizzas”, while the other joked that its offer was tempting enough to make him exercise.

Another user tweeted, “@dominos_india Even I have completed the Helicopter Mission in GTA Vice City. Isn’t it an accomplishment? “

Mirabai Chanu said in a virtual press conference organised by the Sports Authority of India, “My dream of winning an Olympic medal has been fulfilled today. I tried a lot in Rio, put in a lot of effort but it was not my day then. I thought that day only that I will prove myself in Tokyo.”

She further revealed that she had been to her home in Manipur only 5 times in the last 5 years and that now she would be going back home proudly with her medal.
