Dont leave us in chaos: Cricketer Rashid Khan as violence engulfs Afghanistan

As violence escalates in Afghanistan
with the Taliban taking over large parts of the country, Afghan cricketer
Rashid Khan took to Twitter on Tuesday requested world leaders to not leave his
countrymen in chaos.

“Dear World Leaders! My country is in
chaos, thousand of innocent people, including children & women, get
martyred everyday, houses and properties being destructed. Thousand families
displaced. Don’t leave us in chaos. Stop killing Afghans & destroying Aghaniatan,”
Rashid wrote on Twitter calling for peace.

Rashid, one of the biggest names in
Afghan cricket, made the appeal on the day Taliban overran yet another provincial
capital on Tuesday. Eight provincial capitals out of Afghanistan’s 34 and large
parts of rural Afghanistan are now within Taliban’s control.

On Tuesday, the Taliban took over Farah
city in the south-western province and Pul-e-Khumri of the northern province of
Baghlan.

“This afternoon the Taliban entered the
city of Farah after briefly fighting with the security forces. They have captured
the governor’s office and police headquarters,” Shahla Abubar, a member of the
provincial council of Farah told news agency AFP.

Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani has
called upon regional strongmen to support his government. A United Nations
official said that advances made in human rights in Afghanistan are in danger
of being erased.

In Aibak, the capital of Samangan province
on the main road between the northern town of Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul, the
Taliban insurgents are consolidating control and taking over government buildings,
according to residents.

The Taliban have also seized large parts
of the Kunduz province. The Taliban’s advances in Afghanistan occur and US
troops withdraw from the war-torn country. On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden
ruled out any change in plans of withdrawal of troops.
