Handball and not a penalty? Fans upset after Senegal not awarded spot kick vs England in FIFA World Cup 2022

Senegal were denied what could have been a key penalty in their FIFA World Cup 2022 round of 16 match against England on Sunday.

England defender Harry Maguire’s poor clearance was intercepted by Diatta in the Three Lions’ box. The Senegal player highkicked the ball, which hit John Stones’ knee and went onto his forearm. The ball went to Ismaila Sarr, who took a shot from six yards.

Senegal players appealed for a penalty. However, VAR (video assistant referee) check denied them one.
The VAR was denied as the ball deflected onto Stones’ arms from his knees and hence was not considered for penalty.
“Senegal robbed .Clear handball,” a Twitter user said.
“FIFA YOU ARE CORRUPT, CROOKS BLATANT HANDBALL,” another one said.

“that was an obvious handball,” a third one added.
England was quick to use the big opportunity as they kept up the pressure and soon scored the match’s first goal as Jordan Henderson who played in this World Cup for the first time, took England 1-0 up.

Later, Skipper Harry Kane scored another goal in the injury time to take England 2-0 after the first half. The goal was the 29-year-old’s first in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and takes his total World Cup goal tally to 7. Kane had earlier scored 6 goals in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and had walked away with the golden boot as the highest goal scorer of the event.

With a healthy 2-0 lead, The Three Lions are big favorites to win the match and take on eternal rivals France in the quarter-finals.
