Ralf Rangnick stated that the English side, Manchester United, are undeserving to play European football after a 1-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League fixture this Saturday.

“If we play like we did here we just don’t deserve it”, Agence France-Presse reported Rangnick saying. Then German who was expected to spark a much-needed revival in United continued “The players themselves should be eager to play international football if possible Champions League. In order to qualify for Europe, you have to be able to score in 95 minutes in a game like this.”

The godfather of gegenpressing has so far failed to make a mark, as interim manager, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November 2021. Under him, United only won eight of their 17 Premier League games, with Saturday’s loss leaving the Red Devils six points away from Tottenham Hotspurs who are currently at the fourth and final spot, on the PL league table, for the Champions League.

Everton’s victory against United comes after they suffered a 3-2 loss while facing Burnley. This further worked up Rangnick, who stated, “With all respect to Everton — because they have a good team — but if you don’t score against a team who conceded three goals against Burnley, you cannot expect to get anything out of it”.

Notably, Rangnick will stay on as an advisor even if United decide to go with someone else as a full-time replacement. Dutch coach Erik ten Hag, of Ajax, is expected to be the man who takes up the reigns to drag United out of its disappointing run.

At present, United’s goalkeeper David de Gea has echoed Rangnick’s frustrations, saying “We’re not good enough, for sure. It’s going to be very difficult now to be in the top four”, and added, “We don’t score, we don’t even create proper chances to score. They had more desire than us, which is not acceptable.”
