Hillary Clinton, former First Lady and US Secretary of State, harshly criticised Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas over the apex court’s recent decision to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision.

Thomas was part of a Supreme Court majority opinion released on Friday that stripped away constitutional protections for abortion, endangering millions of women in the US.

Commenting on the decision on ‘CBS This Morning’, Clinton ripped into Thomas, who she has known since their time at at Yale Law School in the 1960s.

“I went to law school with him. He’s been a person of grievance for as long as I have known him. Resentment, grievance, anger,” Clinton told show host Gayle King, adding, “Women are going to die, Gayle. Women will die.”

The former presidential candidate also went on to criticise Thomas for a concurring opinion released along side the decision on Roe v Wade, wherein the Supreme Court justice reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents” for rulings dealing with the right to privacy, something that could potentially endanger the right to birth control access, intimate gay relationships, and same-sex marriage.

“He may be on his own, but he’s signaling. He has signaled in the past to lower courts, to state legislatures to find cases, pass laws, get them up … [He is essentially telling conservatives] I may not get them the first, the second, or the third time, but we’re going to keep at it,” Clinton said.

“I don’t care what political party or religion you are — the question is, who decides? Is the government going to be in your bedroom? Is the government going to be making these decisions? We’re only at the beginning of this terrible travesty that this court has inflicted on us,” she added.

Thomas, whose wife Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas has been slammed her role in the events leading up to the January 6 Capitol riots, has faced harsh criticism of late, and is also facing calls for impeachment.
