St Louis high school shooting: Missouri Tigers to pay homage to victims against Kentucky Wildcats

The Missouri Tigers will be paying homage to the victims of Monday’s St Louis high school shooting victims on Saturday, October 29, when they play against the Kentucky Wildcats. Their coach, Eliah Drinkwitz, confirmed the news for the University of Missouri side.

The St Louis high school shooting on Monday resulted in the death of two, a teacher and a student, Jean Kuczka and Alexandria Bell, by Orlando Harris, the 19-year-old gunman who was shot dead by police. The incident shocked the entire nation, resulting in a White House statement by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who called for additional action in US gun legislation.

Apart from the two dead victims, the Central Visual and Performing Arts High School shooting also saw seven people sustain gunshot injuries, who are undergoing treatment. The horrific incident has also resulted in widespread criticism of the gunman and tributes for the victims and Tigers head coach Eliah Drinkwitz was also one of them.

Expressing his feelings on the shooting, Drinkwitz said that he is hoping that honoring the victims will bring a change in the community. “Just such a shame for us to continue to have to face these types of stories and issues,” he told Mizzou Sports Talk.

“For me, it’s not political at all. It’s about protecting the future of our country, and our children are our future. And we cannot continue to live like this. We just can’t. I talked to our staff and talked to my wife about it all the time. It’s not about who’s right. It’s about what’s right. And we need to get this right,” the 39-year-old added.

As per the authorities, Orlando Harris, the gunman behind the St Louis high school shooting, used an AR-15-style gun and almost a dozen magazines holding 30 rounds each. Harris was also an alumnus of the school, where he graduated in 2021.
