Thieves in Ohio steal entire bridge, police seek help
- Police in Akron, Ohio, are looking for thieves who stole a bridge.
- They are likely to have taken it apart, in phases, and smuggled the parts in their truck.
- The police believe the bridge has no recycling value, and the thieves might sell the parts.
Police in
Akron, Ohio, are stumped as they have to solve the case of a stolen bridge. Before
this bizarre crime, the pedestrian bridge was located along the Little Cuyahoga
River in Middlebury Run Park, which is situated at Akron’s east end.
However,
this bridge, which spans 58 feet, was relocated to a field near Seiberling
street, as there was a wetlands restoration project going on in the park at the
time. The city also hoped to repurpose the bridge, which costs $40,000. This is
when they received news of the theft.

An
investigation was launched into the matter, and there were tracks in the field,
indicating that the perpetrators drove a truck or trucks. Detectives have also
concluded that the theft occurred in phases. The thieves found a window and
took the bridge apart.

Information
has surfaced that the architectural design of the bridge would make it easy for
thieves to take it apart. While the cops know the how, they are not sure of the
why. There are many reasons the bridge could be stolen. Lt. Mike Miller of the
force explained that parts could be used in landscaping or engineering
projects, though the thieves might be involved in a larger project as well.

Since authorities
have concluded that the bridge does not have much recycling value, they suspect
that the thieves might be on the lookout for someone who needs an entire bridge
or could use the components of the same.

Lt. Miller addressed the issue, saying
“Someone in the viewing area has access to
some information that we need and this is the ‘whodunit’ where we really need
the community’s help to point us in the right direction to find the people
responsible for removing that bridge.”
