Democratic state Sen. Don Davis has won his bid to represent northeast North Carolina in Congress, defeating Republican Sandy Smith.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is set to win a second term while Katie Britt will become the first woman elected to the Senate in Alabama, CNN has projected. Republican Governor Bill Lee is expected to win Tennessee.
In Georgia, Republican Brian Kemp defeated Democrat Stacey Abrams. Abrams, the activist-writer, has conceded defeat.
In Pennsylvania, Democrat Josh Shapiro has defeated Republican Douglas Mastriano in the gubernatorial race. Meanwhile, in a well-contested race, it was Josh Fetterman who won the Senate seat in Pennsylvania, in a major win for the Democrats.
In Maryland, where voters chose to legalise recreational marijuana, Democrat Wes Moore won the gubernatorial race. Aruna Miller won as lieutenant governor.
Barring a few hiccups in Maricopa County, Arizona, where 20% of all tabulation machines ran into technical problems, and reports of voter intimidation in a couple of states, voting in the US midterms 2022 on Tuesday, November 8, has more or less been uneventful.
There are 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 in the Senate, and 36 in the governor’s offices up for grabs this election.

In order to take control of the House and the Senate, Republicans would only need to gain one seat and five seats, respectively. Republicans have a very good chance of winning a House majority, according to nonpartisan election forecasters and polls. The race for control of the Senate is expected to be more closely contested and take longer to determine.
When will the results be out?
There is a disparity in the polls closing times of the different states. For example, while polls for all statewide races in Indiana and Kentucky close at 7 p.m. EDT, polls in some of the states’ House districts are beginning to close at 6 p.m. EDT.

Then there are states like Georgia. According to Gabriel Sterling, acting deputy secretary of state, six precincts across Georgia have been ordered by courts to remain open past 7 p.m. EDT. Out of more than 2,600 poll locations in Georgia, the hours were extended at the six locations because they opened late in the morning.
So there is still time for the results of the US midterm 2022 to be officially declared, as and when the counting of the votes is completed in each race.
