Virginia mom threatens to bring loaded gun to school, over mask mandate

A Virginia-based woman was recently arrested after threatening to show up at her kids’ school with a loaded gun, in response to a mask mandate at
the local school.

According to CNN, 42-year-old
Amelia King was arrested on Friday by the Luray Police Department after
verbally threatening to bring a loaded gun at the school’s board meeting.

“Alright. No mask
mandates. My children will not come to school on Monday with a mask on. That’s
not happening, and I will bring every single gun loaded and ready”, Amelia told
board members of Page County public school during a public conversation session.

Amelia was soon interrupted
and escorted from the podium by a staff member who told her that her time was
up. Before walking away, Amelia spoke, “I’ll see y’all on Monday.”

After being charged for
her verbal threat by the police, the mom was released on a bond of $5,000.
  

Amelia also sent an
email apology to the school board, stating that she had just spoken the
sentences “figuratively”. 

After the incident, Page County Public
Schools released a statement on Friday, stating that the school “does not take
these kind of statements lightly”. The statement also revealed that the schools
in the district will have an increased police presence on Monday.

The school board had
been contemplating mask mandate rules after an order by Governor Glenn Youngkin
stated that parents from Virginia can decide whether or not to let their wards
wear masks to school. The Governor had imposed the order on his first day in
the office.

The board members decided to vote for the rule
and arrived at a 4-2 vote ratio, supporting the idea that masking the kids will be in
hands of the parents. However, staff and other school personnel will be required
to wear masks on school premises.
