Marco Rubio, a Republican, is contesting the upcoming primary elections in Florida. He aims to retain his seat in the US Senate and is expected to face little challenge. Flordia’s primary elections are scheduled for August 23, 2022.
Rubio’s main challenge in the midterm elections is expected to be from Val Demings, a Democrat who has become the frontrunner in the Democratic primary.

Who is Marco Rubio?
Marco Rubio, 51, was born in Miami, Florida. He was born in a Cuban immigrant family with four siblings. Rubio has spent most of his life in West Miami, where he lives there today with his wife Jeanette and their four children.
Marco Rubio pursued his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 1993 and later went to the University of Miami Law School in 1996 to complete his Juris Doctor.
Four years later, Rubio was elected to his first public office and started serving in the Florida House of Representatives. He later became the Speaker of the lower state legislative chamber in 2006.
He launched his bid for the US Senate in 2009, when Barack Obama was the US President. Rubio has not lost the Senate elections since then and has taken up leadership positions in various Congressional committees and sub-committees.

Senator Rubio is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, Appropriations Committee and the Special Committee on Aging. He is also currently the Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, which has been tasked with overseeing America’s intelligence and national security apparatus.
Marco Rubio also briefly launched his own bid for the White House in 2015, more than a year before the general election. However, he later became a supporter of Donald Trump, who eventually won the US Presidential elections in 2016.
