Kentaro Miura was a Japanese manga artist and author who passed away on May 6 due to acute aortic dissection, a heart-related condition at the age of 54. He was popularly known for his dark fantasy manga comic ‘Berserk’, which began publishing in October 1989.

Miura’s was passionate about art and his zest for illustrations began at an early age of 9-10 when he started drawing for his classmates in school.

According to The Sun, Miura started working as a professional for the first time at the age of 18 when he assisted Japanese author Jyoji Morikawa, also a well-known artist credited for creating the Anime series Hajime no Ippo.

The Berserk author, Miura received the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize – a yearly prize awarded to manga artists on their work in 2002.

His best-known creation Berserk was based on two main characters lone mercenary Guts and Griffith, leader of a mercenary band called “Band of the Hawk”.
