Worlds third-largest diamond found in Botswana
- A 1,098-carat diamond was found on June 1 in Botswana

A 1,098-carat diamond, which is believed to be the thirst largest diamond in the world, was found in Botswana on June 1. Botswana is Africa’s leading diamond-producing country.
Lynette Armstrong, managing director of Debswana Diamond company, handed the stone to President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Wednesday and said, “This is the largest diamond to be recovered by Debswana in the history of over 50 years in operation.”
Armstrong added, “ The rare and extraordinary stone… means so much in the context of diamonds and Botswana. It brings hope to the nation that is struggling.”

Lefoko Moagi, minister of Mineral of Botswana, said that this is the best time for the diamond to be discovered in the country as the sale of the diamond was badly hit in the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The stone is 73mm long, 52 mm wide, and 27 mm thick.
In the year 1905, the world’s largest Cullinan diamond, which was 3,106 carat, was discovered in South Africa.
