In 2020, the global pandemic impacted the theatrical entertainment, as movie theaters and production studios were temporarily closed because of lockdown restrictions. This resulted into heavy losses for the Bollywood industry.  What added to the misery was the second wave in 2021, which still continues to haunt the biggest production houses.

According to Vaishali Sarwankar, CEO & Director, Carnival Motion Pictures , her company used this time to invest  a lot of time strategizing and building a plan to bounce back to business after there was a relief from Lockdown 1.0. However, situations have only deteriorated during the second wave of COVID%u201921.

%u201C Everyone from business as well as service industry is only focussing on survival during these tough times. On our business front, we are working hard to recover from the incurred losses during the pandemic while making sure that we are in the confines of our houses.

%u201CThere is also a link about COVID 19 recessions in India on Wikipedia which gives us a brief analysis of the current scenario in India. Now, we only aim at working towards fighting against all the odds and accepting this as a challenge, facing it with all our strengths,%u201D she told Opoyi.

The production house has released the first poster of their next offering titled %u2018Mere Desh Ki Dharti%u2019 earlier this year and Sarwankar says that  she has  observed a strange change in the viewership of the audience.

%u201CDuring the Lockdown 1.0, people were looking at it as a little work away from work opportunity that gave them time to spend with their loved ones, and keep themselves entertained and catching up with what they missed during their work times. But currently during the second wave, people are only trying to cope up mentally with the situation we are in and are totally disturbed by it. We wish to spread a positive message through our movie and shall wait for the perfect time when people will have no stress whilst they watch our movie,%u201D she said.

The studio is also planning to produce Bollywood and International films in coming days.

%u201CBranching out and restructuring Carnival Motion Pictures is a huge step and we wanted to go all in for that purpose. There were a few interesting International projects in our pipeline but we have pushed it for the year 2022,%u201D she said.

Finally, talking about the boom of OTT in times like now, she says that every filmmaker deserves to be rewarded.

%u201C Be it in the monetary form or recognitions and producers wish to release their movie in theatres to receive that kind of appreciation and also as it adds an additional source of revenue. The rise of OTT platforms gave the producers a stage to showcase their work and to liquidate their investments direct to digital,%u201D she sums up.
