Work, eat, sleep, repeat: This is what Elon Musk’s daily routine looks like
- Elon Musk works for 80 to 100 hours a week
- "I work a lot," he said at a podcast, adding that his meetings go on till 1 or 2 in the morning
- "I tried sleeping less, but then total productivity decreases," he said
Running one company successfully is no small feat, running a couple of those that have revolutionised the individual fields takes a lot of hard work, determination and laser-like focus. But if there is one person who does this successfully, it’s Elon Musk. It’s quite evident that the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, Boring Company and a couple of other initiatives, leads a busy life with a jam-packed schedule.

But as they say, “the secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine”, let’s take a look at how Musk’s daily routine looks like:
Work
The Tesla founder slogs for 80 to 100 hours a week at work. And to sustain that level, he used to gulp caffeine to an extent that he drank eight cups of Diet Coke and several cups of coffee a day, reported Inc. It was when he started feeling “jacked” to the point of “losing my peripheral vision” that he made major cuts.

Sleep
Musk sleeps for 6 to 6.5 hours a day, he told The Joe Rogan Experience. “I work a lot,” he said on the Spotify podcast, adding that his meetings go on till 1 or 2 in the morning.
“I tried sleeping less, but then total productivity decreases,” Musk said at the podcast show. “I don’t find myself wanting more sleep than six (hours),” he added.
Diet
In the 2015 book ‘Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future’ by Ashlee Vance, Musk said that if there was a way he could not eat so he could work, he would not eat.
But five years since then, his outlook has changed. “Food’s great,” Musk said at The Joe Rogan Experience.
“I’d rather eat tasty food and live a shorter life,” he said.
Exercise
Musk isn’t a fan of exercise, he said on the Spotify podcast.
“To be totally frank, I wouldn’t exercise at all if I could,” he said.
Musk, however, lifts weights once in a while and likes to watch TV while running on a treadmill.
Family time
Musk has seven children. “What I find is I’m able to be with them and still be on email,” Musk had told Business Insider. “I can be with them and still be working at the same time … If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to get my job done,” he added.
