The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) have called a one-day Bharat bandh to protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime on Friday.
CAIT national president BC Bhartia and secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal said all commercial markets across the country will remain shut with over 40,000 traders’ associations taking part in the protest.
According to Business Today, Banks will remain open as bank unions said they will not participate in the despite expressing solidarity with farmers.
According to All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) General Secretary C H Venkatachalam, union members would wear black badges while on duty, stage protest after or before working hours and display placards before bank branches in their support to the protests.
BC Bhartia said, “The current system of GST has become a maze of compliances without tangible benefits to the stakeholders. The trade leaders across the country were of a unanimous view that both central and state governments have failed to respond to the problems of traders regarding the tax.”
