Sam Smith’s ‘Unholy’ Grammy performance at the Grammys this year continues to divide the internet, especially after social media users found out that the music awards night was sponsored by Pfizer. The performance was accused of glorifying “satanic worship” and allegedly mocking Christianity.

Conservatives and liberals were infuriated by the hell-themed performance, which starred Smith and Kim Petras. As flames erupted around them, Smith was seen putting on a top hat with devil horns. GOP rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted: “The Grammy’s featured Sam Smith’s demonic performance and was sponsored by Pfizer. And the Satanic Church now has an abortion clinic in NM that requires its patients to perform a satanic ritual before services. American Christians need to get to work.”

It seems that CBS, the network which aired the Grammys, took notice of the ongoing controversy surrounding Smith’s ‘Unholy’ performance and the chatter around how one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world might be behind it. As a result, they took the decision to delete their tweet which they had posted just before the musician’s performance, which partially said, “ready to worship!”

The decision to delete the tweet came on Monday morning apparently. The tweet was in reply to Smith’s post ahead of his controversial performance, which showed black and white photos of his rehearsal before the big day, with the caption, “This is going to be SPECIAL #GRAMMYs”

Pfizer has also put out a statement denying the chatter that they personally funded the performance. “We sponsored the overall Grammy’s event, not any particular performance. Beyond that, we don’t comment on our efforts to raise awareness,” a Pfizer spokesperson told Newsweek.

Smith and Petras won the Grammy for best pop duo/group performance for the song ‘Unholy.’
