Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery starring Daniel Craig has had an impressive run at the theatres despite being only screened for a week. The film was released in 600 theatres across the United States and ended up taking come around $15 million.

Variety believes that the film has taken in a total of $13 million during the Thanksgiving holiday period. The weekend collection itself was upwards of $9 million. This means that the film would have come third after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Strange World had Netflix officially released box office collections. The Dwayne Johnson-led film earned $65 million in the past week and Strange World took home $18.5 million. These films were playing in six times the number of theatres that were screening Glass Onion.

Movies like Glass Onion are needed by the big screen in today’s time when the only movies that seem to fare well at the box office are high-flying superhero blockbusters. The theatrical space is slowly declining for original mid-bidget movies like Glass Onion.

Let’s take a loot at the first Knives Out film’s performance at the box office- the film earned $26 million during the 2019 Thanksgiving weekend. Its total North American earnings were $165 million and worldwide earnings were $311 million. Rian Johnson’s Detective Benoit Blanc has already become a fan favourite, and chances were that he would have been impressive at the box office if allowed a longer run by Netflix.

Quentin Tarantino has recently been under the spotlight for saying that Marvel movies are the only ones that create any sort of excitement among fans these days. However, films like Glass Onion prove that there is still space in the market for well-crafted original stories.

The film will be released on Netflix on December 23, just in time for the Christmas holidays.
