Disney‘s Disenchanted is the widely anticipated sequel to Amy Adams’ 2007 fantasy musical Enchanted. After 15 years of anticipation, the sequel is now nearing its release.

The first film followed Giselle, an animated princess who is essentially a spoof of conventional Disney princess movie stereotypes. When Giselle is abruptly pushed into the real world, she learns to exist as a real person, with big musical pieces assisting her in discovering herself along the way.

The trailers:

On September 9, 2022, the first trailer for Disenchanted was shown at the Disney D23 Expo.

On November 1, the film’s complete trailer was released.

Plot

“It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life,” according to the official plot synopsis for Disenchanted. It isn’t, however, the rapid remedy she had hoped for.

“Suburbia has its own set of laws, as well as a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel even more out of place than before.” Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t come easily, she seeks assistance from the magic of Andalasia, unwittingly changing the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and jeopardising her family’s future happiness.

“Now, Giselle is racing against the clock to break the enchantment and discover what happily ever after actually means to her and her family.”

Despite a potentially darker plot, Amy Adams has confirmed that there would be plenty of singing and dancing, perhaps even more than in the original film.

She commented on the difficult training for the film’s musical scenes during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying, “There’s a lot more singing and a lot more dancing, which was humbling.”

“I was in my 20s the last time I truly danced as much as I’m supposed to dance in this, and now I’m not in my 20s.” It’s different in your forties. When I’m dancing, I feel like I’m in my 20s, and then I watch the replay and think, ‘Whoa, that’s not the same!'”
