Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, is making a comeback with the series And Just Like That. Cattrall will reportedly make a quick cameo appearance in season two of the “Sex and the City” revival series on Max after being conspicuously absent from the show’s first season, Variety reported on May 31. A request for comment from Cattrall did not receive a response.

Without seeing or conversing with the series’ performers, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with showrunner Michael Patrick King, Cattrall reportedly shot her lines on March 22 in New York City. The renowned “Sex and the City” costume designer Patricia Field, who hasn’t been working on “And Just Like That,” dressed Samantha for her part.

In the sequence, Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha, who in the show has relocated to London, will speak on the phone. In the first season of And Just Like That, Carrie spoke via text with an estranged Samantha, and in the season’s finale, they decided to meet up in person to make up.

At the season one red carpet premiere in 2021, writer-director-showrunner Michael Patrick King noted that dealing with Samantha’s absence had a lot of “emotional qualities” in the series.

“I love Samantha. We love Samantha. We know the fans love Samantha. So when Kim didn’t want to do the show and didn’t want to play Samantha anymore because of her own reasons, I had to find a way through the storytelling to respect what the fans felt about Samantha,” King told Vanity Fair. “Rather than ignore her, we still made her part of the story, and to honor Samantha.”

For the time being, Cattrall’s portrayal of Samantha won’t be continued in the story. However, fans of “Sex and the City” who have been clamoring for even a glimpse of Samantha will undoubtedly be thrilled by her reappearance in any form. The adored, powerful publicist was one of the fan-favorite characters of the revolutionary series that aired on HBO for six seasons from 1998 to 2004 and inspired two movies.
