The former quarterback noted that despite receiving few practice reps during training camp and serving largely as a backup and scout team quarterback, Purdy showed poise and confidence. Smith said that despite the strain, Purdy handled it well and carried out his duties.

Purdy was clearly focused as he gave himself over to the game. Smith acknowledged the complexity of the system, which places a heavy processing burden on the quarterback. Purdy, though, showed sufficient competence to persuade Smith that he possessed the required traits. Smith emphasized the significance of long-term winning variables like accuracy, timing, and processing, which Purdy displayed while downplaying the significance of physical characteristics like height, 40-yard dash time, and arm strength in the NFL environment.

Smith, who was a member of the 49ers from 2005 to 2012, saw three qualities in Purdy that he believes will help the San Francisco team continue its winning history, despite the fact that the 23-year-old may not have the physical attributes commonly associated with a quarterback.

However, Purdy has evenly proven his skills by putting up a season-high 1,374 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes, and just four interceptions. He could be a top-tier quarterback for the upcoming 2023 season based on these remarkable stats.
