Saregama, India’s oldest music label, signed a global licensing deal with Facebook to bolster the library of its music products across social media platforms, the company said in a statement on June 2.

With this deal, Facebook and Instagram users will be able to add the music of Saregama in various formats such as videos, stories via music sticker, and other creative content on the platforms.

“People will also be able to add songs to their Facebook Profile,” Saregama said.

Saregama has a catalogue of over 1,00,000 songs in different genres, including film songs, devotional music, ghazals and indie-pop in more than 25 languages.

The music label had also signed a licensing deal with Spotify in May, enabling users to access its entire catalogue.

“At Facebook, we believe music is an integral part of self-expression and bringing people closer together and creating memories that last,” said Manish Chopra, director and head of partnerships, Facebook India.

“We are very proud to partner with Saregama that will allow people on our platforms, globally, to use their favourite retro Indian music to further enrich their content on our platforms,” Chopra added.

The social media giant had signed similar deals with T-series, Zee Music Company, Yash Raj Films in March. Music products of India’s top music labels were rolled out in the country in September last year.
