The first trailer for the anticipated ‘Shazam!’ sequel, named ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods,’ debuted at today’s Warner Bros. San Diego Comic-Con session.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ reintroduces Zachary Levi as its protagonist, along with Asher Angel as his high school alter ego, Billy Batson. Rachel Zegler also appears in the film as one of the Daughters of Atlas, a divine order with no comic book origin who look to be the baddies this time around.

Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu star as Hespera and Kalypso, the Daughters of Atlas. Returning cast members include Meagan Good, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, and Grace Fulton. The film will be released on December 21.

Shazam narrates a quick review of his own life, obsesses over Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and makes the obligatory mention of another superhero with a lightning bolt on his uniform — but the trailer fades away before we can see if it’s Ezra Miller reprising the part.

David F. Sandberg, who helmed the first ‘Shazam!’ film returns to direct ‘Fury of the Gods.’ ‘Fast and Furious’ writer Chris Morgan will collaborate with ‘Shazam!’ writer Henry Gayden on the sequel. The teaser is full of Easter eggs, including references to Starro, Titano the super-ape, and Karaqan from Aquaman, as well as Sandberg and Morgan’s past work on Annabelle and the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise.
