‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ is the follow-up to the 2019 DC movie ‘Shazam!’ which stars Zachary Levi in the lead role as the superhero who gains his powers from a wizard. The first movie was praised for infusing the usually-grim DC Extended Universe with a splash of youthful energy.

While ‘Shazam!’ showed the hero’s origin story, the trailer of the second film shows him dealing with imposter syndrome.

He questions his contributions as a hero and whether he’s doing anything original. Shazam refers to Justice League members Flash, Aquaman, and Batman, who he says have an upper edge.

Flash has the same red suit and flash of lightning that he has, while Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is big and manly, as he describes. Ben Affleck’s Batman is shown as well, with the hero commenting on how the caped crusader is just so “cool”. Another problem on Shazam’s mind is that all the other kids who stayed with him also got the powers when they helped him defeat the antagonist in the first film. Now, he struggles to keep the team together.

However, all other problems take a backseat when the gods come for revenge, taking offence to the kids taking all the magical powers. The clash between the superheroes and the divine beings threatens to end the world, and Shazam must get his family working together if he hopes to save the day.

With Helen Mirren playing the antagonist in the upcoming movie, ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ promises to be an action-packed DC outing which even features a fearsome dragon.
