Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2: Of course Eddie is an Iron Maiden fan
- Joseph Quinn plays Eddie Munson on 'Stranger Things'
- He shows a proclivity for metal
- Munson also plays Dungeons and Dragons and is the president of the Hellfire Club
‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 has given fans a new favourite character – Eddie Munson. The Dungeons and Dragons-playing president of the Hellfire Club might be on the run for murder and hated by most of Hawkins, but he possesses heroic qualities, not to mention heavy metal trivia.
This first becomes evident when Munson speaks to Steve Harrington about the latter’s encounter with the bats of Upside Down. Joseph Quinn’s character drops an Ozzy Osbourne reference, from the time the Black Sabbath frontman bit off a bat’s head while on stage.
With his BC Rich guitar, Eddie has kept showing viewers, time and again, that he’s inclined to a heavier music genre. The final episode sees him sport a jacket with a James Dio patch as well. That, combined with the most metal performance ever to distract the winged menaces of the Upside Down, has cemented his spot as a metalhead.

With Eddie’s particular inclinations, one scene in the penultimate episode stands out. Nancy is under Vecna’s spell and the others try to find some music that can pull her out of it. Robin mouths off a list of performers including The Beatles, complaining that Eddie doesn’t have any music that can be played. She holds up an Iron Maiden cassette, which she hands to Eddie. He retorts assertively, “This is music”.
The heavy metal band, Iron Maiden, was formed in 1975 and has gone on to become globally popular with lasting tracks such as ‘Fear of the Dark’. More interestingly, the band’s mascot shares the same name as the ‘Stranger Things’ resident metalhead.
Fans have noticed this similarity as well, with one mentioning that Eddie is holding up ‘Piece of Mind’, which came out in 1983.
The band mascot, also known as ‘Eddie the Head’ has grown in popularity, appearing on album covers, concerts, merchandise, and much more. While Eddie has taken on the form of a mental patient, cyborg, and Egyptian mummy, the mascot has most often been described as “zombie-like” in the press.

Eddie’s music choice is a refreshing change to ‘Stranger Things’ and its proclivity for 80s pop, and yet another reason why the character has quickly gained so many fans.
