Super Bowl 55: Netizens react to The Weeknd’s half-time performance

Singer The Weeknd on Monday headlined the Super Bowl 2021 half-time show, singing a medley of his hit songs in a solo performance. 

While each year the half-time show has one main performance with a number of appearances from other artists, this time it was just The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye as the one and only performer.

Prior to the show, he told Billboard, “We’ve been really focusing on dialing in on the fans at home and making performances a cinematic experience, and we want to do that with the Super Bowl.”

He added, “There wasn’t any room to fit it in the narrative and the story I was telling in the performance. So there’s no special guests, no.”

His performance featured some of his hit songs such as ‘Starboy,’  ‘The Hills,’ ‘I Can’t Feel My Face’ and ‘I Feel It Coming.’ He ended the performance with ‘Blinding Lights’ from the 2020 album ‘After Hours.’

Following his performance, fans took to social media to shower praises on the artist. While a fan said, “HE SANG STARBOY AND I FEEL IT COMING IM CRYINGGGGGGG I MISS DAFT PUNK SO MUCHHHHHH,” another said “The marching red army is a little off putting but Abel looks like he’s having a blast, so I’m happy for the man.”

According to Billboard, the artist put up $7 million of his own money into making this Super Bowl performance.
