The much-awaited trailer of Shabaash Mithu, a movie on the life of ace cricketer Mithali Raj, was released on Monday. The biopic, starring actor Taapsee Pannu, shows the struggles and the successes of the former captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, who recently retired after a 23-year illustrious career. The movie will release on July 15.
“Mithali Raj. You know the name, now get ready to see the story behind what makes her the legend. Woman who redefined “The Gentleman’s game”. She created HERSTORY and I’m honoured to bring it to you,” Taapsee wrote on social media while sharing the trailer.

The trailer opens with Taapsee hitting fours and sixes on the field. It then cuts to Mithali’s childhood when her parents and her coach, played by Vijay Raaz, notice her talent. She finds a place in the girl’s cricket team but is bullied and ridiculed. The trailer then shows how she rises above all struggles and becomes a legendary cricketer against all odds.

When Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of cricket earlier this month, Taapsee had penned a heartfelt note, saying, “There are cricketers who have records under their name. There are cricketers who have tremendous fan following. There are cricketers who inspire you and make you believe that if they can so can you! And then there’s Mithali who did all of this in her classic graceful style and also changed the game of cricket where the presence of women in concerned.”

“Not just in our country but she will be remembered for her contribution to womens cricket across the globe. I just got too fortunate as a fan who got to live her glorious journey of 23 years for a bit on camera which taught me so much about resilience and perseverance. She is truly a legend we can never thank enough,” she added.
