Why Fall Out Boy guitarist, co-founder Joe Trohman is taking a break from the band

Joe Trohman, guitarist with the band Fall Out Boy, is stepping away from the band to take care of his mental health. The band announced Trohman’s decision on Wednesday in a social media post with the caption ‘a note from Joe’. 

“Without divulging all the details I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years,” the 38-year-old said in the note, adding, “So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.”

His temporary departure from the band comes days before the band announced that their eighth studio album So Much (For) Stardust will be released on March 24, 2023.

“It pains me to make this decision, especially when we are releasing a new album that fills me with great pride (the sin I’m most proud of),” the actor wrote in his note to the fans.

“So, the question remains: Will I return to the fold? Absolutely, one-hundred percent. In the meantime, I must recover which means putting myself and my mental health first. Thank you to everyone, including my bandmates and family, for understanding and respecting this difficult, but necessary, decision.”

Trohman founded Fall Out Boy with Pete Wentz in 2001. Vocalist Patrick Stump joined the band later to form a trio. Fall Out Boy has scored four number one albums on the US Billboard 200.

Along with Fall Out Boy, Trohman is also the lead guitarist with the heavy metal supergroup The Damned Things.
