Will there be a ‘Squid Game’ Season 3? Here’s what the creator says
- Squid Game might get a Season 3
- Discussions are already on for Season 2
- It became first Netflix show to reach 142 million global viewership
‘Squid Game’ took the world by storm, becoming one of the most popular international shows on Netflix. Now, it may be coming back to the platform for two more seasons. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s creator, recently confirmed in an interview with KBS that he’s in talks with the premier streaming service for not just Season 2, but a third season as well.
Dong-hyuk said, “I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3. We will come to a conclusion any time soon.” Netflix, which decides to greenlight or axe shows based on viewership numbers, will surely consider that in the weeks after its debut on September 17, ‘Squid Game’ went on to reach 142 million global households. It became the first show to cross the 100 million viewership mark.

The creator has repeatedly stated that he’s under a lot of pressure about the storyline of the second season, due to the global attention, and accompanying scrutiny that the first season’s success guaranteed. He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “I do have a basic storyline for season two — it’s all in my head — and I am currently in the brainstorming stage. It will happen, someday, but as for when I cannot tell you the details.”
Meanwhile, a Netflix spokesperson has confirmed that discussions are going on, but nothing has been confirmed yet, on part of the streamer.
