So If you suspect that you too might be a supernatural woman in a Bollywood film, go through their checklist below:

• When the backstory involves betrayal: Tripti Dimri’s character in the 2020 film ‘Bulbbul’ is tricked into marriage as a child, to an abusive man much older than she is, only to later be raped by his twin brother. Anushka Sharma’s character in

2018 film Pari is born to a woman who was raped by a demon and is then chained to a remote rural hut for most of her life. The ghost from the 2018 film Stree is killed along with her husband on their wedding night

• When hair does the talking: If you cut it out, all your strength is gone. Actor Shraddha Kapoor steals the ghost hair in ‘Stree’ and attaches it to her own to acquire her powers. Konkona Sen Sharma’s character of the witch in ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ is only defeated when her long braid is cut off

• Work mode in the night: In Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Durgamati’, the story plot revolves around a myth surrounding the ghost killing her dissidents on full moon nights as a sacrifice to the local Goddess. In ‘Stree’ too, the men of Chanderi are advised not to roam the streets alone after 10 pm during the four days of an annual village festival because that’s when the witch strikes.

Red for luck: The female leads in ‘Stree’, ‘Bulbbul’ and ‘Durgamati’ are obsessed with red it seems.
