Annual Amarnath Yatra to start from June 28, registrations from April 1

  • The yatra will be held from June 28 to August 22

The annual Amarnath yatra will start on June 28 and culminate on
the day of Raksha Bandhan, August 22 as per the tradition, PTI reported citing
officials on Saturday. The decision was taken byShri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) on Saturday. The Amarnath is Hindu mythological 3,880-metre high cave
shrine situated in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

According to the decision  taken at the 40th board meeting of the Shri
Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) chaired by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan, the registration process for the holy tour would
begin on April 1. Nearly 446 branches of Punjab National Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank and YES Bank in 37 states and Union Territories have been designated for the purpose.

The Amarnath Yatra stood cancelled for normal public and was restricted to Sadhus last year in view of coronavirus pandemic. While an year before that, the yatra was called off mid way earlier because of a ‘terror threat’, made three
days before the Centre revoked provisions of Article 370 in Kashmir.

However, In
2019, over 3.42 lakh devotees visited the Hindu cave shrine, while the highest number of over 3.52 lakh
pilgrims paid their obeisance at the shrine in 2015.

As many as 3.20 lakh offered their prayers at the shrine in 2016, 2.60
lakh in 2017 and 2.85 lakh in 2018, the officials said
