Jharkhand extends COVID curbs till May 13, 10-day lockdown in Himachal

  • The lockdown-like restrictions were first imposed in Jharkhand on April 22 as "Health Safety Week"
  • The restrictions in Jharkhand have now been extended till 6 am on May 13
  • In Himachal Pradesh, the lockdown has been imposed from May 7 to May 16

Amid a continuous surge in COVID-19 cases across several states, Jharkhand on Wednesday extended lockdown-like restrictions in the state till May 13, while Himachal Pradesh announced a 10-day lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus. 

The lockdown-like restrictions were first imposed in Jharkhand on April 22 as “Health Safety Week,” and it was due to end on Thursday. The restrictions were first imposed till April 28 and were extended till May 6.

The restrictions have now been extended till 6 am on May 13. As per the order, state government offices in Jharkhand will function till normal hours instead of 2 pm.

On Wednesday, Jharkhand recorded 5,974 COVID-19 cases while 132 people died from the infection. 

In Himachal Pradesh, the lockdown has been imposed from May 7 to May 16, in which private offices and establishments will be closed but essentials services will remain open. 

While educational institutions would remain closed till May 31, work would continue at civil work sites and horticultural, agricultural and other projects.

Government and private transport vehicles will be allowed to ply with 50% occupancy, and inter-state transportation will continue.
