The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the partial ‘corona curfew’ till 7 am on May 10, ACS Information Navneet Sehgal told news agency ANI on Wednesday. All shops and establishments, which were due to reopen on Thursday, will remain shut in Uttar Pradesh till May 10 now.

The curfew extension comes a day before the restrictions in Uttar Pradesh were due to be lifted on Thursday morning. 

During the curfew, all essential services will be allowed and the vaccination centres will remain open.

On April 29, the state government had announced that weekend lockdowns will now cover Mondays too.

The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a partial curfew in the state amid a steep rise of COVID-19 cases. Uttar Pradesh is one of the worst-hit states in India by the second wave of pandemic and has currently 272,568 active cases of coronavirus. On Tuesday the state registered over 25,500 cases of COVID-19 while 351 died from the infection. 

The caseload of UP is now at 1,368,183, while the death toll stands at 13,798.
