New York’s Times Square to witness biggest tri-colour hoisting by Indians
- The event will begin at 9:30 am EST
- The Indian flag will be 6 feet by 10 feet
- The tricolour will be displayed for 24 hours
On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day on August 15, 2021, the country’s diaspora plans to hoist the largest ever tricolour at the iconic Times Square in New York City, according to media reports.
The Federation of Indian Associations announced that the Indian flag, which will have dimensions of 6 feet by 10 feet, will also be hoisted from the pool that will be 25 feet high. The flag will be unfurled by Randhir Jaiswal, who is the Consul General of India in New York, on Sunday, according to reports from the American Bazaar.
The event to celebrate India’s Independence day will span for the entire day on Sunday. The Indian tricolour will also be displayed for 24 hours.
Special guests, top government officials and numerous members of the Indian-American community will attend the event, which will include a gala cruise in New York’s Hudson river, according to media reports.
In a statement release, the Federation of Indian Associations announced that an Independence day message will be put on display on Times Square’s biggest jumbotron.
In an attempt to further the diplomatic relations shared by India and the United States, the country’s Secretary of State Anthony Blinken passed on his wishes to the people of India while cherishing a relationship that spans “seven decades”.
He said, “On behalf of the Government & people of the US, I extend warm wishes to people of India on your 75th Independence Day. The bonds between the US & India began over seven decades ago & have transformed into a growing partnership”, according to reports from news agency ANI.
However, wishes from United States President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and other crucial officials of the government are yet to give their statements.
