The festivities of India’s 75th Independence Day has reached the United States too as some of America’s most prominent building and spots gear up to be illuminated in tricolour to commemorate the day of India’s liberty. New York’s ‘World Trade Center’, ‘Times Square’, ‘One Bryant Park’ and ‘One Five One’ will light up with the colours of the national flag of India on Sunday (ET). The Independence Day of India is celebrated on August 15. 

World Trade Center

US’ tallest building, The One World Trade Center, with a height of 408 feet and a 758-tonne spire will be illuminated in the colours of the Indian flag on the eve of August 15. The World Trade Center podium will also be light up by the authorities, announced the South Asian Engagement Foundation (SAEF) in collaboration with The Durst Organisation.

“This initiative commemorates the world’s largest democracy – India entering its 75th year of Independence,” South Asian Engagement Foundation said in a press release.

Times Square

The Federation of Indian Associations representing the Indian community in the US announced on Friday that it will hoist the biggest tricolour at the iconic Times Square in New York on August 15 on the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence Day.

The 6 feet by 10 feet tricolour places on a 25 feet pole will be unfurled by the consul general of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal, according to the Federation of Indian Association (FIA).

Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center in the Midtown Manhattan area of New York City.

One Bryant Park

Another Durst Organisation skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, One Bryant Park, will be lit up in India tricolours as a part of Indian Independence Day celebrations.

One Five One

One of New York City’s prominent skyscrapers One Five One, will also be lit up in the Indian tricolours as part of the celebrations. The lighting will be turned on at sunset and remain lit until 2:00 am.
