West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s brother, Ashim Banerjee, died at a Kolkata hospital on Saturday. He had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment, news agency ANI quoted Dr Alok Roy, Chairman of Medica Superspecialty Hospital, as saying.

Ashim was West Bengal CM’s younger brother.

Meanwhile, the state on Friday logged the highest single-day spike of 20,846 COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 1,094,802. As many as 139 patients died of the disease, taking the death toll to reach 12,993.
