World Health Day is observed annually on April 7 to draw attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. This date also marks the anniversary of the World Health Organization’s founding in 1948. It is celebrated to reimagine a world where everyone has access to clean air, water, and food, where economies are centred on health and well-being, where cities are livable, and people have control over their own and the planet’s health.

World Health Day also commemorates the anniversary of the World Health Organization‘s founding in 1948, and this year WHO is focusing global attention on the urgent actions required to keep humans and the planet healthy, as well as to foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being. The mind-body connection is no secret, as we have all witnessed our emotions directly impacting our physical health and vice versa.
Because of the explicit interdependence of the mind and body, our thoughts and feelings influence what happens with our bodies, which is why we frequently find ourselves saying, “I am not feeling good,” or “I don’t feel like eating,” or “I am not hungry because I am not in the mood or feeling low emotionally or depressed.” Shruthi M Hegde, Senior Research Associate – R&D at Himalaya Wellness Company, shared additional examples of the mind-body connection with HT Lifestyle, including people experiencing panic attacks, sweating or shivering, and those suffering from stress complaining of fatigue.

“Such examples demonstrate the link between mental and physical health.” In the long run, an imbalance between one’s physical and mental health has been linked to serious illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular and respiratory health issues. Similarly, one in every three people with chronic physical health conditions has mental health problems, which can impair the immune system and cause sleep disturbances,” she explained. The expert offered the following five suggestions for striking a balance between physical and mental health
1. Regular exercise
Physical activities are an excellent way to stay fit and healthy while also improving one’s mental health. Sports, dance, Yoga, and other daily physical activities are also options. Regular exercise improves metabolism, elevates mood, and boosts energy and alertness.
2. Healthy food habits
We’ve all heard the adage, “You are what you eat.” A well-balanced, nutritious diet is beneficial to both the body and the mind. Following a good diet plan, such as eating fresh, wholesome food and eating mindfully, contributes to good health.

3. Restful sleep
A good night’s sleep helps to relax the body, de-stress the mind, relieve stress, and calm the mind.
4. Quitting bad habits
To break bad habits, small steps should be taken every day. It could be smoking, drinking alcohol, eating junk food, or spending too much time in front of a screen. Regulating our habits will aid in the health of our bodies and minds.

5. Developing good habits
We should try to engage in activities that help us to relax and focus. To reflect on the day, one can keep a journal. Meditation helps to relieve stress, which improves both mental and physical health. Positive emotions should be prioritized over negative ones.
